Welcome to Paddy's Historical Tours of Liverpool.

This is a 2 hour long historical walk exploring the “footprints” left on the port, town and then city by the millions of people who are linked to this small space, at the heart of Liverpool — people who lived, moved through, built, traded, and died in this ancient spot.

This tour is not about the Fabulous Four, nor about the two international football teams in the city. There are other tours that will cater for those curious to find out more about those topics.

This tour focuses on the vast numbers of people connected with the places and the streets of Liverpool. The themes of this tour are the same as the people who lived in this port, town and then city: love, loyalty, heroism, creativity, risk, and wealth. In addition: exploitation, crime, disease, poverty, and war.

The tour focuses on the area around the city centre and connects with its over 800-year-old past. We will explore the port, the town, and the city, with its human “footprint” still visible on the maps of today. We will travel through time, from early medieval England through to the early 21st Century.

This two-hour walking tour offers a frank introduction to Liverpool’s links with the Atlantic slave trade — how the port grew wealthy through the trade, and how that history is still written into the streets, buildings, and street names of the city centre.

What is the difference between the two tours?
The Historical Tour of Liverpool is a paid walk covering the city's story from 1207 to the 20th century. The Transatlantic Slave Trade Tour is a charity walk: all proceeds go to charity, and it looks frankly at Liverpool's links with the Atlantic slave trade.
Is the Transatlantic Slave Trade Tour a charity tour?
Yes. All proceeds from that tour go to charity.
What language are the tours in?
The tours are conducted in English.
Who is the guide?
Andrew Holt — known as Paddy — is a history teacher who has lived in the Liverpool City Region for over 35 years. He leads the walks himself.
Is there public liability insurance?
Yes. The tours have public liability insurance.
How much does the Historical Tour of Liverpool cost?
A two-hour walk is £15 for adults, £10 for OAPs and students, £7.50 for children aged 10 to 18, and free for children under 10. The tour may not suit children of primary school age, or people with severely restricted mobility. Full details are on the prices page.
